Is there a change coming to District 1?  Reading about Corie Holmes suggests that may well be the case.

Corie Holmes, an investigator and former MCSO deputy, has entered the race for the Manatee County Commission District 1 seat. Holmes touts his strong community ties and smart growth agenda  as strengths, and says that he hopes to be able to represent the citizens of the county over developers and other interests  he sees as having gained disproportionate influence over county government.

This article shows what apathy can do.  Citizens should be vigilant and involved.  Attending Board of Commissioners' meetings in Manatee County and speaking or emailing commissioners to voice concern over issues is everyone's responsibility.  What happened in Hardee County could very well happen here in Manatee County.

Welcome to the Manatee Coalition for Responsible Government

The MCRG meets on the third Friday of each month at 11 am at the 26th street branch of the county Library.

Manatee Coalition for Responsible Government Mission Statement:

The citizens of various communities in Manatee County are associated to educate,advocate, and promote responsible county government actions affecting quality of life, safety, and environmental issues in the county and to help elect public officials who embrace the shared needs and interests of these communities.

 

The Manatee Coalition for Responsible Government supports:

  • the preservation of neighborhoods and the quality of life issues those communities provides their residents.

  • the promotion of safety within the county’s communities and urges careful study before roads are enlarged, bridges are built, and traffic is increased.

  • all actions that result in greater transparency of governmental action or non-action.

  • the creation of permanent jobs in the County with employers whose businesses do not pollute.

  • the protection of environmental values and promotes the performance of environmental impact analysis so decision-making is informed.

Contributions

The MCRG is registered with the IRS and the Manatee County Supervisor of Elections, in conformance with Florida Statute 106.011(1) as a Political Committee.  Contributions to the MCRG can be used to support or oppose any candidate, issue or political party, including the cost of independent expenditures and electioneering communications.  Any funds received are deposited in a bank account depository designated, the Manatee Coalition for Responsible Government.  Contributions to the MCRG for supporting the opposition of one or more candidates or opposing both candidates and issues are limited to $500 and are not tax deductible if you itemize deductions.
